For many years Paton Books have been holding an Annual Bookfair, at St Albans Town Hall, featuring thousands of new books at greatly reduced prices.
The 2012 Bookfair commences on 20th October and will be open 7 days a week until 2nd January 2013. The opening hours are 9am to 5.30pm (Monday to Saturday) and 10am to 5pm (Sunday). The entrances are either in Market Place (through the Tourist Information Office) or in Chequer Street (opposite the Maltings Shopping Centre).
The Bookfair has become a traditional part of Christmas shopping in St Albans. Most interest areas are featured from cookery and art to history and travel. One of the largest areas is devoted to childrens books. Local books are another popular area. Besides a vast range of books, you will also find an interesting range of gift items. The range of stationery includes notelets, address books and calendars.
St Albans Town Hall also houses the Tourist Information Office and a cafe.
A visit to the Bookfair gives people an opportunity to gain full access to our fascinating original 1831 courtroom. The books are displayed amongst the dock and benches in this historic setting.
In a survey, carried out at the Bookfair, people said that it is a part of St Albans life that they value and would like to see continue (see ‘Your Comments’).
According to the Herts Advertiser “there is a comfortable feel about” the Bookfair, “like old libraries before modern planners got their hands on them, and that the range of books that Paton’s sell there is truly remarkable”.
The outstanding value for money offered by the Bookfair really will help your Christmas shopping budget go much further.
